Makawao 4th of July Rodeo Parade celebrates upcountry agricultural heritage with Hawaiian Style. The horses decorated with elaborate Lei, and the proud paniolos-- who still work the cattle on Maui-- make the Rodeo Parade a popular local attraction.
Early western settlers chose this area for its fertile soil and comfortable climate. They built their churches and homes and Makawao was born.
From Makawao, it's less than 20 minutes' drive to the airport and just 6 miles to the fun north-shore town of Paia, with its charming shops and excellent restaurants, including the famous Mama's Fish House.
